Public Health Nuisances

The Fulton County Health Department receives and responds to calls regarding public health nuisances. These calls may involve anything from housing complaints to sewage, to weeds and high grass. The department investigates all complaints that are submitted. If the complaint is found to be valid, the process to have the nuisance corrected will be started. Time limits are normally given depending on the severity of the situation. Time limits could range from one day to thirty days. If the need arises, some situations may be brought before the Board of Health or referred to the county prosecutor.

Some examples of a public health nuisance would be:
  • Household garbage
  • Unsanitary housing conditions
  • Noxious weeds and tall grass
  • Odors
  • Open burning
  • Sewage
  • Stagnant bodies of water
  • Vermin

Most nuisances are covered under Chapter 3767 of the Ohio Revised Code. Fulton County also has its own Housing Maintenance Code to establish standards for dwellings within the county.

To submit a complaint to this department, please call (419) 337-0915. Anonymous complaints will be accepted.
